چکیده

In this paper, we discuss the challenge of 3DTV and present our requirements for a novel threedimensional video format. We will show that the ad-hoc stereoscopic video format does not provide the necessary flexibility towards user interactivity and non-stereo based 3D displays. In order to enable an evolutionary scenario from 2D towards 3DTV, we will propose our preferred solution that combines a standard 2D video sequence with synchronized depth information. This provides full compatibility with the existing 2D video chain, and is flexible enough to create a convincing depth effect on both stereoscopic and autostereoscopic displays.
